Carlo Ancelotti was overjoyed with Real Madrid’s emphatic win at home against his former side Napoli, as no team were ‘holding back.’
Napoli’s Giovanni Simeone opened the scoring at the Bernabeu, but Rodrygo and Bellingham quickly turned the tables, putting Real Madrid in the lead. However, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa leveled the score early in the second half, giving Napoli a chance to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 with a draw.
Unfortunately for them, Nicolas Paz and Joselu scored late goals, securing a 4-2 victory for Real Madrid and eliminating Napoli from the competition.
“It was a very open game from both teams, no holding back, many goals and opportunities. When it felt like fatigue was setting in, we found fresh energy to bring the result home,” Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia.
Napoli vs Real Madrid Ancelotti dodged a question about his future
Real Madrid substitute Nicolas Paz scored his first goal for the senior team in a Champions League match against Napoli. However, his goal was somewhat fortunate, as it resulted from a mistake by Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, who allowed the ball to bounce in front of him and then failed to stop Paz’s shot.
“He was born in 2004 and one of the talented players who is working with Raul in the youth team. We were a bit short-staffed, so he gave us a hand.”
Real Madrid have asserted their dominance in their Champions League group, boasting a perfect record of five wins in five matches.
“I think the key is the atmosphere that reigns in the locker room, with players who are very focused and very professional. I think that makes the difference in nights like this.”
Ancelotti discussed his future plans in an interview with Amazon Prime Video Italia, indicating that while he is committed to Real Madrid, he is also open to exploring other opportunities.
“Can you ask a different question?” was his response with the trademark raised eyebrow.
