Sergio Aguero explained why Lionel Messi is a better goalscorer than Cristiano Ronaldo and insisted that Ronaldo’s goals are “pure luck”.
The debate about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is still ongoing after the Argentine surpassed Ronaldo in the all-time scoring race at the club level.
In PSG’s 2-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1, Messi who is close to a return to Barcelona, surpassed Ronaldo’s tally of 701 club goals in Europe by finding the net. Aguero, who was live streaming on Twitch, reported by Medio Tiempo, questioned the quality of Ronaldo’s goals in comparison to the seven time Ballon d’Or winner’s.
The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry started in 2007 and is still ongoing
He believed that Ronaldo often benefitted from a huge slice of good fortune.
He said: “Look where he scores the goal from. Come on. All free-kick goals and pure luck. Messi’s are all at the angle, stupid. But what does [Ronaldo] do? Goalkeeper’s fault. I think Raul has better goals, [Karim] Benzema I think he has better ones.”
Off the pitch, Aguero and Messi share an incredible bond of friendship. Aguero’s son, Benjamin, has Messi as his godfather.
Aguero reportedly decided to join Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021 to share the same dressing room with the legend.
However, the Argentine’s captain departure for PSG in the same summer prevented Aguero from fulfilling his wish.
