Bayern Munich has imposed a suspension and fine on Sadio Mane for allegedly punching his team-mate Leroy Sane.
During Bayern Munich’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, Sadio Mane, the former Liverpool forward, was reportedly involved in a verbal argument with his teammate Leroy Sane. According to reports, Mane allegedly punched Sane, resulting in a cut lip, after the game.
On Thursday, during the training session, both Mane and Sane apologized to their team-mates for the altercation.
However, Bayern Munich has confirmed that Mane will not be playing in the upcoming match against Hoffenheim, implying that he has been suspended for the game.
Bayern Munich released a statement on Thursday stating that Sadio Mane will not participate in the upcoming match against Hoffenheim due to “misconduct” after the defeat against Manchester City. Additionally, he will also face a financial penalty. The statement implies that Mane’s absence from the squad is a consequence of his actions.
Bayern’s statement read: “Sadio Mane, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim. This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mane will also be given a fine.”
Mane has played 32 games this season and contributed 11 goals and 5 assists, whereas Sane has made 36 appearances and provided 13 goals and 7 assists.
