Real Madrid star Toni Kroos laughed at rumours he is going to return to his former team Bayern Munich in the summer.
The 34-year-old Kroos is under contract with Real Madrid until the summer, and his future is unclear. Kroos played for seven years with Bayern Munich between 2007 and 2014, before joining Real Madrid.
Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Leipzig, Kroos was asked about rumours that Thomas Tuchel has contacted him about returning to Bayern.
“I expected a lot of questions about my future today, but not this one,” he laughed. “ I’m always very honoured when someone wants me on their team, regardless of whether that’s even true. But in this case I can clearly say that’s not going to happen.”
Kroos also admitted he still has not made a decision about his future and extending his contract with Real Madrid.
“I always tell you the truth, and the truth is I don’t know. I’m thinking about what I want to do. I haven’t decided anything yet. It makes me happy that people want me to play one more year, that’s better than the other way around, wanting me to stop! It depends on a lot of things.“
Kroos retired from international football in 2021 but did not rule out a return to the German national side ahead of Euro 2024.
“I want to end my career at the highest level possible. I’m enjoying the moment. I deserve a bit more time to take the decision, I want it to be the correct one. And the same for the national team. I’m thinking about it, but like with my renewal, I don’t know.”
