Immobile: Sharing this victory with fans is what we dream of as children

Ciro Immobile expresses that securing a Champions League knockout round victory over Bayern Munich is akin to fulfilling childhood dreams.

In the first leg of this Champions League Round of 16 encounter, the Biancocelesti enjoyed a near-perfect outcome, clinching a 1-0 win courtesy of Immobile‘s penalty.

Dayot Upamecano conceded the penalty and received a red card for his challenge, which saw him making contact with Gustav Isaksen’s ankle with his studs raised.

Even prior to going down to 10 men, Bayern struggled to create chances, failing to register a single shot on target, while Ivan Provedel had little involvement in the match.

“I was convinced this team would give everything, we wanted to give a wonderful night to these people and we did it,” Immobile told Amazon Prime Video Italia.

“It’s a pity we didn’t make more of our other scoring opportunities, especially going into the second leg, but this is good.

“Playing fixtures like this gives you such emotion and sharing it with these fans is what we dream of as children.”

The penalty against Bayern was Immobile’s ninth goal in just 12 Champions League appearances for Lazio.

“We prepared this game to win, even if we had only a 10 per cent chance, we still would’ve given our all.”

The return fixture is in Munich on March 5 and Lazio have a 1-0 lead with no away goals rule, so if they lose by any one-goal margin, it will go to extra time.
