‘I have no problem with Enrique’, says Mbappe as PSG cruises into UCL quarters

Kylian Mbappe’s brace against Real Sociedad saw Paris Saint-Germain cruise into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain reached the Champions League quarterfinal with a comfortable 2-1 win away to Real Sociedad in their round of second leg. Enrique’s side completed a 4-1 aggregate victory against the Spanish side.

Mbappe told Canal+: “We’re really happy. That was the objective. We wanted to qualify, but we also wanted to win, We had a game plan that was clear, and we managed to score early. We didn’t come under too much pressure, just a little at the end.

This was only the third time in their past eight round of 16 appearances that Paris has made it through to the last eight. PSG is into the quarter-finals for the first time since 2021.

He added: “We knew right away that we couldn’t go to sleep. If they had opened the scoring, they would have pushed on with their fans’ backing. We had to dampen their hopes early on. That’s what we did, and we’re very happy to be back in the quarter-finals.”

Mbappe also denied some reports in French media that he is unhappy with Luis Enrique.

I have no problem with the coach. Everything is good with him. I have problems but the manager isn’t one of them.”

The 25-year-old Mbappe now has scored 34 goals in all competitions this season, including 6 goals in the Champions League.

The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League quarter-final, semi-final, and final draws take place on Friday 15 March 2024.
