Carlo Ancelotti: We were bad against RB Leipzig!

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was candid about his side’s lackluster performance against RB Leipzig despite them qualifying for the UCL quarter-finals.

Real Madrid managed a 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig despite looking unconvincing for most of the game. Bellingham and Vinicius’ magical link paid off for Los Blancos in the second half but by then RB Leipzig could’ve been two or three goals up if, Openda had taken his chances against them.

Leipzig managed to draw several minutes after Vinicius’ goal but, Ancelotti’s men hung on to finally qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League on a 2-1 aggregate win.

However, real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t too happy about his side’s performance, telling the press: “The performance? We were bad.

“We played against a quality opponent who had nothing to lose, while we were held back and suffered. But the important thing was to get to the quarterfinals.”

“You have to be self-critical but not exaggerate. We must assess and be ready for the next game,” Ancelotti continued.

“We wanted to press more and instead we defended too low. And We had little verticality, it was a bad evening and it seems obvious to me.”

The Italian tactician was also asked about his recent legal struggles, where he has been accused of tax evasion by the Spanish prosecutor’s office. Ancelotti responded by saying: “It’s an old story that started eight years ago. The Prosecutor’s Office thinks that I was a resident and I was not. I have already paid the fine. I’m innocent and I’m convinced that I was not a resident.”

Despite being one of UCL’s contenders, Real Madrid looked unprepared for how RB Leipzig pressed them. But Ancelotti’s men still have a long way to go to become genuine contenders.
