Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku will reportedly be sidelined for about three weeks due to a hip injury.
The 26-year-old was not part of the squad in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Preston in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. Manager Mauricio Pochettino mentioned that Nkunku had sustained a new injury. Recent reports indicate that the French international will be facing a three-week absence due to a hip problem.
Since his £52 million ($66m) summer transfer from RB Leipzig, Nkunku has featured in only four matches for Chelsea. After sustaining a knee injury during pre-season, he made his return to action last month.
However, with this recent hip injury, he is poised for another period of absence from the pitch. Chelsea is optimistic about his swift recovery, hoping to see the former Paris Saint-Germain player back in action soon.
Nkunku isn’t the sole Chelsea player facing injury setbacks this season. Another summer acquisition, Romeo Lavia, was sidelined for four months due to an ankle problem before finally making his debut for the Blues in December.
However, the £58 million ($73.7m) signing encountered another injury issue late last month during a brief appearance against Crystal Palace.
Chelsea is scheduled to play against Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, followed by a Premier League match at home against Fulham four days later. The exact return date for Nkunku to the west London outfit remains uncertain at this point.
