Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku will be unavailable for Chelsea’s fourth-round FA Cup match against Aston Villa.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that both Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku will be out from their squad from their upcoming FA Cup clash. However, the manager expressed optimism that the duo, who missed the Carabao Cup victory over Middlesbrough, might make a return for the Premier League fixture against Liverpool at Anfield on January 31.
Nkunku has been dealing with a hip issue, while Gusto was sidelined for the Carabao Cup match.
Ahead of Friday’s FA Cup clash with Villa, the former Tottenham boss said: “They could be available for Liverpool on Wednesday (January 31), they could be. We need to see how they evolve in the next few days. We are positive, but we will see. They won’t be available for tomorrow (Friday).”
Chelsea, despite facing criticism for their high-profile transfers, are making positive strides. They have secured victories in four out of their last five Premier League matches, closing the gap to West Ham in sixth place to just four points.
Additionally, they have reached the final of the Carabao Cup, and their presence in the FA Cup continues. The imminent return of Gusto and Nkunku provides an additional lift for the west London team.
Following the FA Cup encounter with the formidable Villans at home on Friday, Chelsea will confront Liverpool, their Carabao Cup final opponent, at Anfield in less than a week. Subsequently, they initiate February with a fixture against Wolves at Stamford Bridge, just four days after their visit to Merseyside.
