Luton Town 2-6 Manchester City: Haaland’s glut dismantles Luton

Manchester City cruised into the FA Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday with a resounding 6-2 victory over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, led by a stunning five-goal performance from striker Erling Haaland.

Erling Haaland put five past Tim Krul as Manchester City beat Luton Town to qualify for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. In a dominant first half, the Cityzens took control of the game, with Haaland completing a hat-trick in just 41 minutes, courtesy of three superb assists from Kevin De Bruyne.

Despite Jordan Clark pulling two goals back for Luton, Haaland swiftly extended City’s lead with another brace early in the second half. Mateo Kovacic then added the sixth goal for Manchester City with a powerful long-range strike, sealing the emphatic victory.

Luton Town likely felt intimidated facing Manchester City at Kenilworth Road, given the exceptional talent in the City squad, including stars like John Stones, De Bruyne, and Haaland, all of whom featured in the starting lineup for the reigning FA Cup champions.

Those concerns were validated within just three minutes of the match, as Haaland wasted no time in putting Manchester City ahead. De Bruyne provided the assist once again, delivering a precise pass to Haaland, who expertly finished from close range after evading the Luton defense.

Manchester City vs Luton: The goals were flowing for both sides!

The duo combined once more to double City’s lead before the 20-minute mark, showcasing Manchester City’s attacking prowess. Haaland’s layoff found De Bruyne, who delivered a perfectly timed through-ball, allowing Haaland to beat the Luton goalkeeper with a clinical finish.

Haaland had an opportunity to complete his hat-trick midway through the first half, but Luton goalkeeper Tim Krul made a crucial save. De Bruyne also had a chance from the rebound, but Krul denied him as well, keeping City at bay momentarily.

However, it didn’t take long for Haaland to complete his hat-trick, with De Bruyne once again providing the assist. De Bruyne delivered another exceptional pass, allowing Haaland to demonstrate his composure by lofting the ball over Krul.

Clark managed to reduce the deficit for Luton just before half-time with a remarkable long-range strike that beat Stefan Ortega from 30 yards out. Shortly after the break, he surprised City again by scoring a second goal, latching onto a well-chipped ball behind the defense and firing a superb shot into the top corner.

However, Luton’s hopes of a remarkable comeback were dashed just three minutes later, as De Bruyne set up Haaland for an easy tap-in. Incredibly, Haaland secured his fifth goal of the game just two minutes after that, with a powerful shot that slipped past Krul.

Despite efforts from Carlton Morris and Ross Barkley, who were denied by Stefan Ortega, and Tahith Chong’s missed opportunity from close range after a Luton corner, Kovacic sealed the victory for City with a stunning long-range strike that eluded Krul. The match concluded with a remarkable display from Manchester City in what turned out to be an unforgettable FA Cup encounter at Kenilworth Road.
