Duncan Ferguson departs from Forest Green

Duncan Ferguson has departed from his role as the head coach of Forest Green. The club from Gloucestershire hired the 51-year-old Scottish coach in January

Duncan Ferguson was unsuccessful in maintaining their position in League One. Rovers managed to secure only six victories out of their 46 matches.

“It had been a privilege to work with Dunc these last few months and this was a very difficult decision to make,” Rovers chairman Dale Vince said.

“I’m grateful to Dunc for joining us in such difficult circumstances and for all of his hard work at the club.

“But I feel this is overall the right decision for everyone and I wish Dunc well in his next coaching role. We are parting as friends. You can’t ask for much more than that.”

Forest Green has tended to deviate from traditional methods in selecting head coaches.

In May 2021, Vince informed the PA news agency that a candidate, who was a female coach currently employed in the Women’s Super League, had initially stood out as a potential candidate for the club’s managerial position. However, it was later discovered that her CV had been submitted without her knowledge.
