The next FIFA Club World Cup has been awarded to Saudi Arabia and will be held in December.
FIFA appoints Saudi Arabia as the next Club World Cup host
FIFA has “unanimously appointed” Saudi Arabia to host the Club World Cup. the tournament will be held in December between 12th and 22nd and will have its current seven-team format.
Saudi Arabia’s bid comes in the wake of their decision to announce a hosting bid for the 2030 World Cup in tandem with Greece and Egypt. There have been confirmed intentions to bid from the likes of Morocco, Spain-Portugal-Ukraine alliance, plus a South American offering from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.
The hosts of the 2030 World Cup are set to be announced next year. However, there are concerns from various organizations about how a World Cup in Saudi Arabia will look, considering the controversy that surrounded the Qatar World Cup, especially in regard to human rights and LGBTQ+ rights.
