Leroy Sane apologised to fans for receiving a red card as Germany suffered another defeat ahead of Euro 2024.
Germany lost 2-0 to Austria in a friendly match on Tuesday night. This is their second straight defeat as Germany continues to struggle under new manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Marcel Sabitzer put Austria in the lead in the 29th minute, and Christoph Baumgartner doubled their lead in the 73rd minute. Germany who will host the Euro 2024 now has lost six times in 2023. Nagelsmann replaced Hansi Flick in September.
Germany and Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane received a red card in the 49th minute after he shoved an Austria player in his face.
After the match, Sane wrote on his social media page, which read: “An evening to forget in Vienna. I apologized to my teammates in the dressing room for the action. Despite all my emotion and ambition, this can’t happen to me, especially in our current situation. A big sorry to our fans too. We have a lot of work ahead of us to make 2024 a successful year for us.”
The 27-year-old winger has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 18 matches for Bayern Munich this season.
