Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati wins 2023 The Best FIFA Women’s Player award

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been named the 2023 The Best FIFA Women’s Player, adding to her growing list of individual awards.

Having already claimed a World Cup Golden Ball, UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, and the Ballon d’Or, the 25-year-old Aitana Bonmati beat fellow nominees Linda Caicedo and Jenni Hermoso to claim FIFA’s top prize for the first time in her career.

Bonmati was the leading favourite to take home the gong, having won the World Cup with Spain alongside a treble at club level with Barca.

Bonmati’s win was widely anticipated, given her contributions to Spain’s World Cup victory and her role in Barcelona’s treble success at the club level.

She previously picked up the Ballon d’Or Feminin back in October, beating a host of England stars, after winning Liga F and the Champions League.

Bonmati was also an integral part of the Spain squad that lifted the World Cup in August against the odds. She succeeds fellow Spaniard Alexia Putellas as the latest winner of the Best FIFA Women’s Player.
