South Africa claimed third place at the Africa Cup of Nations after beating DR Congo on penalties on Saturday night.
South Africa won 6-5 on penalties after both teams failed to score throughout the 90 minutes of action.
Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams proved the hero again as they beat DR Congo in a penalty shootout to claim the third sport of the Africa Cup of Nations. They missed their first spot-kick, but Williams saved two penalties to see his country claim the third spot.
Silas Katompa had a good chance to score for Congo in the eighth minute when he was free on the left with just Williams to beat, but his hesitation allowed the keeper to grab the ball at his feet.
Congo came close to scoring in the 65th minute after Williams made a rare mistake by dropping the ball when trying to claim a clearance, but Silas Katompa put his chance wide!
Just ten minutes later, Congo had another great chance to score when Mbemba found himself free at the back post but couldn’t sort his feet out and blazed over the bar!
