Lionel Messi to miss Argentina friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica due to injury

Lionel Messi will miss Argentina’s upcoming friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica due to a hamstring injury.

Messi suffered an injury in the second half of last week’s 3-1 win against Nashville in the Concacaf Champions Cup. He missed Inter Miami’s victory at D.C. United in MLS on Saturday.

Messi had been included in Argentina’s squad for the international friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica. However, Argentina FA confirmed on Monday that Messi will miss their March friendlies.

A statement read: “The captain of Argentina Lionel Messi, will not be able to be in the squad for the friendlies in USA due to a minor injury to the hamstring of his right leg suffered in his team’s Inter Miami’s match against Nashville SC.”

Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino revealed on Sunday that Messi’s condition will be evaluated “week by week.”

Argentina will play with El Salvador in Philadelphia this Friday and against Costa Rica in Los Angeles on March 26.
