Carlo Ancelotti confirms having discussions with Brazil

Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged that he had been in communication with the Brazil football federation prior to finalizing his new contract with Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti, whose contract was set to conclude at the end of the ongoing season, has recently extended his agreement with Real Madrid, binding him to the club until June 2026.

Despite discussions with former CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues about the potential of leading the Brazil national team, the Italian manager chose to remain in Spain for an additional two years after securing his future with Los Blancos.

Speaking to reporters, the 64-year-old said, “The reality is what everyone knows. I had contact with the [now former] president of the Brazilian federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues. I want to thank him for his affection and interest, it made me very proud, but what’s clear to everyone is it depends on my situation at Real Madrid. I’m grateful for the interest but in the end, it turned out how I wanted: staying here.”

Ancelotti doubts if Brazil want him in 2026

He added, “It’s exciting to think about, but I don’t know if the Brazil national team will want me in 2026. Obviously, I’m very happy with my renewal. It was quite straightforward, it was fast, without problems, without doubts. It’s my last job, that’s what I’ve said before and I confirm it. But when this [contract] is over in 2026, I could carry on. It depends on the success we have… I’ll be coach until 2026 and let’s hope in 2027 and 2028.”

According to The Athletic, the recently signed contract by the manager includes the option for him to transition into another role within the club instead of continuing as the head coach until 2026.

This practice is not unprecedented for the Spanish giants, as in 2018, Santiago Solari was elevated from Castilla to the first team, replacing Julen Lopetegui as the head coach. However, after a year in the role, Solari was relieved of his coaching duties, but the club subsequently invited him to stay in a different capacity.
