Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has extended his stay with the World Champion through their title defense in the 2026 World Cup
La Albiceleste extend the contract of their World Cup-winning manager Lionel Scaloni until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Scaloni to lead Argentina in 2026 World Cup
Lionel Scaloni, who has helped Argentina win two major trophies, will lead Albiceleste until the end of the upcoming World Cup, where they will defend their 2022 World Cup title.
Scaloni, with the massive help of Lionel Messi, led Argentina to a Copa America title in 2021. Messi and Scaloni teamed up once again a year later when Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in spectacular fashion.
Argentina won its third World Cup trophy and the first since 1986 when Maradona led them to victory in Mexico.
Scaloni himself proved to be a tactical genius in Qatar. He showed a lot of flexibility when it came to choosing his players and tactics against each opponent. But it didn’t hurt to have Lionel Messi in his side, who scored seven goals and provided three assists in the tournament.
Scaloni’s contract had expired following the World Cup, but with this renewal, he is set to helm Argentina in the next Copa America as well as the next World Cup, barring any disasters.
The Argentine tactician was undoubtedly an underdog choice when he took over the position at Argentina in 2018. However, he has proved himself to be one of the best coaches in the world and has been nominated for the FIFA Best Men’s Coach for 2022, alongside Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
