Harry Maguire mother hits out at his son’s abusers

Harry Maguire’s mother, Zoe, took to social media to defend her son, expressing strong disapproval of the treatment he received from England fans during the Three Lions’ victory over Scotland.

The Manchester United player was taunted by supporters when he replaced the injured Marc Guehi during England’s friendly match against Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow earlier this week.

Tragically, Maguire went on to score an own goal in the 67th minute by inadvertently redirecting a Scotland cross into his own net.

Maguire’s Mom: I wish this abuse on no one

Zoe Maguire, has now taken to social media to speak out against the abuse her son has received. She wrote: “As a mum seeing the level of negative and abusive comments which my son is receiving from some fans, pundits and the media is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to any walk of life never mind someone who works his socks off for club and country.”

“I was there in the stand as usual, It’s not acceptable what’s been created, over nothing. I understand that in the football world there are ups and downs, positives and negatives but what Harry receives has gone far beyond ‘football’.”

“For me seeing him go through what he’s going through is not ok. I would hate to have to see any other parents or players go through this in the future, especially the young boys and girls breaking through the ranks today.

“Harry has a massive heart and it’s a good job he’s mentally strong and can handle it as others may not be able to. I wish this sort of abuse on nobody.”

Following the match, England manager Gareth Southgate criticized the treatment of Harry Maguire, describing it as “ridiculous.” Southgate also implied that the negative narrative surrounding Maguire in recent years had contributed to the taunts from fans.

While Maguire had a move to West Ham during the summer transfer window, the transfer did not go through, and he has been struggling for playing time under manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite his reduced role, Maguire remains confident in his ability to handle the fan taunts and believes he will still get playing time at Old Trafford this season.
