Ronald Koeman is considering giving Botman and Brobbey their international debut for the Netherlands, but Gravenberch was not called up
Georginio Wijnaldum made a return to the Netherlands squad, as Ronald Koeman named his first team since taking up the national coach role again.
Five players who have not previously featured for the team were included in the squad, however, Ryan Gravenberch was not among them.
Botman’s impressive performances earns him a Netherlands call-up
Koeman, who led the team from 2018 to 2020, took over from Louis van Gaal after the last World Cup. The Netherlands will play against France and Gibraltar in their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Ronald Koeman could potentially give debuts to two players who have been impressive this season, namely Sven Botman and Brian Brobbey, with both having been called up previously under Louis van Gaal but not playing for the national team.
Koeman has also included three other uncapped players – Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht, and Lutsharel Geertruida and Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord.
The Netherlands will play against France and Gibraltar as part of their Euro 2024 qualifying matches.
Koeman decided to make changes to the goalkeeping position, recalling Jasper Cillessen and Mark Flekken while including Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen.
The return of Georginio Wijnaldum was also notable, having missed the World Cup due to a leg fracture. Ryan Gravenberch was not selected, and instead included in the Netherlands Under-21 squad.
It is possible that Wijnaldum’s return contributed to Gravenberch’s absence, despite his potential, as Koeman opted for more experienced players.
