Barcelona midfielder Frankie De Jong loses out on representing Netherlands in the upcoming international fixtures due to “upper leg complaints”
Due to an injury, Frenkie de Jong will not participate in the Netherlands’ first two Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Although he played the entire match as Barcelona won against Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday, he experienced “upper leg complaints,” according to the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), which resulted in his removal from the Oranje squad for their upcoming games.
De Jong joins Bergwijn in Koeman’s injury list
Ajax striker Steven Bergwijn has had to withdraw from the team due to a knee injury. Ronald Koeman has selected Joey Veerman from PSV and Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund as the replacements for Bergwijn.
The Netherlands will start their campaign by playing against France in Paris on Friday, followed by a game against Gibraltar at De Kuip three days later.
This match against France will mark the beginning of Ronald Koeman’s second term as the team’s coach.
Ronald Koeman was announced as the new head coach for the Dutch national team before the World Cup last year.
However, Louis van Gaal oversaw the team’s progress to the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 tournament.
