Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from Portugal’s squad for international fixtures due to “personal reasons.”
The 24-year-old full-back was called up by manager Roberto Martinez for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Poland and Liechtenstein but had to leave the training camp.
While the exact nature of the personal reasons hasn’t been officially disclosed, it’s suggested that Dalot is expecting his first child with fiancee Claudia Lopes, and family-related matters might be the reason for his withdrawal.
In July, Diogo Dalot and Claudia Lopes announced their pregnancy on social media. The couple, who began dating in 2020, continued their relationship even when Dalot was on a year-long loan to AC Milan during the 2020–21 season, with Lopes accompanying him to Italy.
Dalot has earned 16 caps for Portugal, with 12 of them coming in the last 24 months. He started in each of his nation’s last five games, all of which resulted in victories.
Dalot will probably return to action when Manchester United faces Everton at Goodison Park on November 26.
