Luciano Spalletti emphasized the significance of a united Italy squad ahead of their match against North Macedonia.
During his press conference, Luciano Spalletti stressed the need for the team to understand the “meaning of life” and their “role in the world” to foster unity and cohesion.
“When you really strike people with your words, it is more likely those words will be transformed into action. So this is why I say we need to be united, bonded together, as it makes things simpler,” Spalletti told RAI Sport.
“It is always helpful to have a very united team, as it means you react quicker to things in unison and come back quicker together when you have been apart for a while. We also need to be united on the field, with few gaps between the lines.”
The Azzurri requires four points from the upcoming matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine to secure direct qualification for EURO 2024. Italy faced a notable setback when they lost the 2022 World Cup play-off against North Macedonia. In Spalletti’s debut as coach, the team managed a 2-2 draw against North Macedonia in September.
“It becomes an even more exciting and strong challenge, because we must know the meaning of life, our role in the world,” added the coach when talking about the pressure.
“We are here, called by Italy, to prove ourselves. You wake up in the morning with a target and ours is to win these matches.”
