Despite an underwhelming international break for England, Bayern Munich star Harry Kane expresses immense pride in the historic achievements of the national team in 2023.
England faced a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia in their recent outing, with Kane contributing a crucial goal to secure a point after trailing in the first half.
While the team’s recent performances might not have been exceptional, Kane emphasizes the collective accomplishments throughout the year. England’s strong position in the qualification table, finishing six points ahead of Italy, adds to the sense of pride for the forward.
The year 2023 proved to be historic for England, marked by significant achievements. They secured their place in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany by defeating Italy on home soil, marking the first victory against Italy at home since 1977.
Additionally, England achieved their first-ever competitive win on Italian soil, with Harry Kane playing a key role by scoring in both matches. Kane’s goal from the penalty spot in Naples also elevated him to the status of England’s record international goal scorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals.
Despite Kane’s individual success, criticism has been directed at Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate due to the team’s underwhelming performances against Malta and North Macedonia.
Kane wrote on Instagram: “Very proud of what we’ve achieved as a team in 2023 – from a historic win in Italy to qualifying as group winners. On a personal level becoming England’s top goalscorer means it’s been an international year I’ll always remember. Can’t wait for 2024 in an England shirt and the Euros 🙌🦁🦁🦁.”
