Gundogan: ‘It can’t get any worse for Germany’

Ilkay Gundogan expressed a sentiment of disappointment and frustration following Germany 2-0 loss to Austria in Vienna.

Germany faced another setback on Tuesday night, losing 2-0 to Austria in Vienna, following their disappointing 3-2 defeat to Turkey on Saturday. Ilkay Gundogan expressed that Germany has hit rock bottom just seven months before hosting the European Championship on home soil.

“It can’t get any worse right now. That is the only positive thing.” Gundogan, the Germany captain told ZDF.

“Leroy’s red card sums it all up. The frustration, the disappointment. We made it far too easy for the Austrians. We were not good enough.” He said.

Ilkay Gündogan highlighted Leroy Sane’s red card incident, suggesting that it encapsulated the overall nature of the game for Germany.
