The following year, Antony kept his spot in the starting lineup despite the additions of Mohamed Daramy and Steven Berghuis, and thanks to his two goals and five assists against Sporting CP and Borussia Dortmund, Ajax became the first Dutch team in Champions League history to sweep all six group matches.
After Manchester United’s interest in Antony’s services, which included an €85 million transfer offer, was rebuffed by Ajax, he was left out of the matchday squads against Sparta Rotterdam and Utrecht because he did not show up for training.
