Making her NWSL debut as an 86th-minute substitute against the Houston Dash on April 14, 2019, Balcer showcased her skills. Just a week later, she earned her first start in Reign’s home opener at Cheney Stadium.

In the 21st minute, she scored her inaugural professional goal, curling a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner of the goal, contributing to a 1–1 tie against Orlando Pride. This goal marked the first home goal scored in the Reign’s inaugural season in Tacoma, Washington.


In her second home start, Balcer secured her second goal on May 27, 2019, in a 2–1 victory against the defending champions North Carolina Courage. A 13th-minute header from the box’s edge crashed off the bar’s underside, providing her team with an early lead.

Continuing her scoring streak, she notched her third goal in her third home start against the Houston Dash. In the 32nd minute, on a breakaway, she received a deflected through ball from Darian Jenkins and slotted it right-footed past the keeper for the opening goal.

Although Houston tied in the 90th minute, Balcer’s performance throughout the season earned her the 2019 Rookie of the Year Award.
