Atletico and France legend Antoine Griezmann has expressed his desire to emulate Lionel Messi and become a part of an MLS club in the future.
After the unexpected revelation of Messi’s impending move to Inter Miami in the MLS, Griezmann has openly stated his intention to join him in the United States. Having shared the field at Barcelona, Griezmann acknowledges that he intends to continue his career in Europe for the time being but acknowledges the allure of playing in the U.S. and can envision himself doing so in the future.
“It’s a dream of mine,” the 32-year-old said when quizzed on a potential MLS move at a press conference. “I want it to be the best possible conditions when I go there, but it’s certainly an objective in the future.”
Griezmann had a remarkable individual season at Atletico Madrid, netting 15 goals in La Liga and contributing to their third-place finish. Initially joining on loan from Barca in 2021, he eventually made the move permanent in October after a prolonged negotiation process in which the club managed to circumvent the €40 million release clause payment.
Griezmann is currently with the French national team. Les Bleus are set to face Greece on Monday.
