Goalkeeper Zack Steffen has finalized his return to MLS with the Colorado Rapids following his departure from Premier League champions Manchester City.
According to The Athletic, Steffen’s transfer to the Colorado Rapids has been confirmed. The goalkeeper has inked a three-year contract with the possibility of extending for another year. This move marks Steffen’s comeback to MLS after departing the Columbus Crew in 2019 to join Manchester City.
Steffen had limited opportunities at City and was loaned to Fortuna Dusseldorf and Middlesbrough during his tenure with the Premier League club. Despite being associated with a transfer to Leicester in the summer, a knee injury prevented the move, and he remained at City but was sidelined for the initial half of the season.
Zack Steffen’s final appearance for Manchester City was in an FA Cup semi-final match against Liverpool in April 2022, which ended in a 3-2 defeat.
Steffen is now making a transfer to the Colorado Rapids, where he is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper. He aims to showcase his skills once again in MLS, and the move might offer a chance for a resurgence in his international career, having slipped down the pecking order for the USMNT.
