Former United defender Eric Bailly exiled from Besiktas along with five other players

After just 98 days since joining Besiktas, former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly finds himself in exile at the Turkish club.

The Ivory Coast international had left Manchester United over the summer, having spent the previous season on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1. Despite expectations of a fresh start in Turkey, the 29-year-old center-half has already been sidelined in Istanbul.

Besiktas has communicated through the club’s social media platforms that Eric Bailly is one of five players who have been excluded from the first-team squad. This decision follows a disappointing 3-1 home loss against arch-rivals Fenerbahce.

Besiktas have said: “Our Football Teams General Coordinator Samet Aybaba; He announced that Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana were excluded from the squad due to poor performance and incompatibility within the team. Our work on the new staff structure continues. We respectfully present it to the public.”

Eric Bailly, who started in the defeat against Fenerbahce, failed to win over the fan base that has become disheartened with the team’s performance, currently sitting fifth in the Super Lig table. Bailly’s experience, having previously made 113 appearances for Premier League giants Manchester United and winning the League Cup and Europa League, was expected to contribute to Besiktas moving forward.
