Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to become the new Besiktas boss

Reports suggest that former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to securing the position of head coach at Besiktas.

It is anticipated that Solskjaer will sign a contract for a year and a half with the Istanbul-based club, following talks that have been ongoing since the dismissal of Riza Calimbay, who held the position for just over a month and managed seven matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been without a managerial role since his departure from Manchester United in November 2021. The former Molde and Cardiff City manager was at the helm of United for over two and a half years, overseeing 149 matches in all competitions, before being dismissed following a 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Solskjaer will sign a contract for a year and a half with the Istanbul-based team, following the recent dismissal of Riza Calimbay. Besiktas had previously parted ways with Senol Gunes in October, leading to Burak Yilmaz serving as interim coach until Calimbay’s short tenure. As of now, Besiktas is in fifth place in the Super Lig, trailing Fenerbahce and Galatasaray by 17 points.

The confirmation of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as Besiktas head coach remains uncertain ahead of their Super Lig match against Hatayspor on Monday.
