Chelsea have confirmed that they signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton in a deal worth a British record £115, taking the upperhand from rivals Liverpool.
The Blues announced that the midfielder signed an eight-year contract, which Chelsea can extend for an additional season. The club officially revealed the deal by sharing a short video of the midfielder in a Chelsea shirt, embracing his mother while sitting on the boot of a car.
This mirrored a photo of the pair taken in their native Ecuador, where Caicedo wore the 2020-21 home shirt. The deal marks a remarkable ascent for the 21-year-old, who joined Brighton in February 2021 for a fee of approximately £4.5m.
A bidding war between Chelsea and Liverpool resulted in a £115m ($146m) fee, breaking the British record and providing a substantial return for the Seagulls, who reportedly still hold a portion of any future sale.
Caicedo is expected to make his debut when Chelsea visit West Ham on Sunday.
