Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone insists Real Madrid and Barcelona are favourites to win the La Liga, despite scoring seven goals against Rayo Vallecano.
Atletico Madrid beat Rayo Vallecano 7-0 on Monday night to earn their biggest away win ever in La Liga. Simeone’s side is in second place in the table behind Real Madrid with seven points after three matches.
After the match, Simeone insisted his team is not among the favourites to win the La Liga this season.
“I am not going to change for a game where we were especially effective. Madrid and Barcelona are better than the rest and we work to be there when they fail,” he told Diario AS.
Diego Simeone also admitted he is concern about losing one of his key players to Saudi Arabia clubs in the end of the transfer market.
“I am convinced that a player will leave, hopefully not ours,” he pronounced.
“We had a great game from the start, with a lot of intensity,” said France forward Antoine Griezmann.
“They’re three important points and I’m very happy with the team’s work.”
The only bad news for Atletico and Simeone was Memphis Depay’s injury in the first half.
