The Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga says he ‘didn’t have to think twice’ when Real Madrid asked him to join them.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was close to joining Bayern Munich, but he later joined Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea this summer.
In an interview with Marca, the 28-year-old Arrizabalaga admits that he could not reject Real Madrid’s offer.
“Everything happened very fast. It’s true that (Mauricio) Pochettino wanted me to stay at Chelsea and told me that I was going to play, and that he trusted me. However, I thought a change would suit me. I wanted a change. Thomas Tuchel called me. I was close to going to Bayern Munich.
“In the end, Real Madrid is Real Madrid. When Real Madrid calls you, you don’t have to think twice. It is a great joy (to be here) and an exciting challenge.”
Real Madrid had a perfect start to the season with 12 points after four matches in the La Liga.
Arrizabalaga is expected to be Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming matches against Georgia and Cyprus.
