Atletico Madrid 3-1 Real Madrid: Morata double inspires thrilling derby triumph

Alvaro Morata struck twice for Atletico Madrid as they inflicted rivals Real Madrid’s first defeat of the season, with a 3-1 derby win on Sunday in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid beat their rivals Real Madrid 3-1 in the first Madrid derby of the season at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday night with a convincing performance.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side lost the top of the La Liga table to Barcelona with this result. They are now in the third place with 15 points after six matches, while Barcelona has 16 points. Diego Simeone’s side now has 10 points after five matches.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring against his former team in the 4th minute. Morata scored with his head from a fantastic cross from Lino on the left wing.

Atletico who started the game brilliantly, scored the second goal though Griezmann in the 18th minute. The French forward scored with a superb header from Saul’s cross.

Real Madrid puled one goal back in the 35th minute through Toni Kross. He scored with a powerful shot from 20 yards out, which Oblak had no chance saving.

Just a few minutes later, Alaba hit the ball against the post and Camavinga scored from the rebound. However, the goal was ruled out because Rudiger was in an offside position when the ball from Bellingham went into the box.

Ancelotti replaced Luca Modric with Joselu at the half-time, but Real conceded the third goal at the beginning of the second half. Morata scored his second goal, once again with a header from Saul’s perfect cross.

Rudiger tried his luck with a powerful shot from long range in the 70th minute, but it only flew a yard or so wide of the post.
