Chelsea legend Petr Cech joins Elite League ice hockey team Belfast Giants

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has joined the Elite League ice hockey team Belfast Giants on loan, four years after he retired from professional football.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech started playing Ice Hockey after retiring from professional football in 2019. Cech joined Oxford City Stars in the National Ice Hockey League in June 2022.

Elite League Ice Hockey side Belfast Giants confirmed on Wednesday that they have signed Petr Cech on loan. He could make his debut against Sheffield Steelers on Saturday. The 41-year-old Cech plays as a netminder, equivalent to a goalkeeper in football.

Belfast Giants coach Adam Keefe said: “Petr is a highly decorated athlete, who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level. We’re very appreciative of the support of both the Oxford City Stars and Petr himself. His support during this loan period will be invaluable.”

Cech won four Premier League titles and the Champions League at Chelsea. He was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2023.
