Atletico Madrid is keen on securing the services of Fidel Barajas, the U17 World Cup sensation. However, Chelsea is also interested in him.
Atletico Madrid often seeks promising young talent in the transfer market. Following the arrivals of Santiago Mourino and Samu Omorodion last summer, the club is considering adding another young prospect to its ranks in 2024.
Fidel Barajas is a left-footed winger primarily deployed on the right wing. He presently competes for Charleston Battery in the second tier of the American football system. However, the 17-year-old prospect is garnering attention from Europe. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and PSV Eindhoven are expressing interest, alongside Mexican club Necaxa, according to Jovenes Futbolistas MX.
Fidel Barajas is currently representing Mexico in the U17 World Cup in Indonesia. While contributing one assist in two matches, his overall performance has been notable, even though the Mexican team has struggled, earning only one point thus far.
It’s yet to be seen if Atletico Madrid will proceed with their plans to sign Barajas. The interest from Chelsea and PSV adds competition, making the situation more challenging.
