Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti says he agrees with Jose Mourinho that ‘only a madman’ would leave Real Madrid.
Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid came to an end at the end of the season and Brazil wants to hire him before the 2026 World Cup. There have been reports in recent days that Real Madrid is willing to extend Ancelotti’s contract.
Former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho recently said only a madman like him would leave Los Blancos when he is still wanted and urged Ancelotti to stay at the club.
“I am a Mourinhista and we have a great relationship,” Ancelotti told Dsport.
“The bond has gotten stronger thanks to Roma. I used to be the Roma captain, which was a fantastic moment of my life. I agree with him, only a madman would leave Madrid.
Ancelotti added: “I am in no rush and I am happy and focused on the next games. I try to give my best.”
Ancelotti also said only a strong Football Players’ Union can change the football schedule and reduce the number of games.
“We can’t choose, UEFA and FIFA are in charge and they must realise what’s going on,” he said.
“Things won’t improve in the future. On the contrary, they’ll get worse because there will be a Club World Cup and a Champions League with more games. A strong Football Players’ Union could be the key to changing this situation. Footballers are the most important part of the game and when they aren’t there, we lose an important part of the show.”
