Inter produced an impressive performance to stun Serie A defending champions Napoli with a crushing 3-0 victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Inter is at the top of the table with 35 points after 14 matches. Last year’s champions are now eleven points off the league lead. Napoli has been without a win in their last five matches in all competitions.
Napoli could score in the 36th minute, but Politano’s strike from outside the box hit the bar. Just three minutes later, Lautaro Martinez could score with a volley after beating the offside trap, but Napoli keeper Meret sent the ball away.
Just one minute before the halftime, Inter finally managed to score. Barella flicked Dumfries’ cross from the left into the lap of Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder sent the ball into the bottom left corner with a powerful strike.
Inter doubled its lead in the 61st minute through Barella. He received a wonderful pass from Lautaro, and then swept forward into the box. Barella went past attempted challenges and sent the ball past Meret at close range.
Marcus Thuram completed his excellent performance with a goal in the 85th minute. He advanced into the box, where Cuadrado picked him out with a low cross from the right. Thuram guided the ball past the goalkeeper.
