Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester City: Toothless champions stunned by Emery’s side

Aston Villa produced a dominant performance to beat Manchester City and move above them in the Premier League table.

Aston Villa moved to the third place in the table with a 1-0 home win over Manchester City. Villa now has won 14 Premier League home games in a row. This was also Unai Emery’s first win as a manager over Pep Guardiola.

Man City have failed to win in their last four Premier League games, taking three points from a possible 12. Guardiola’s side now are fourth in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Villa had a good chance early in the game, but Ederson denied Pau Torres from scoring. A few moments later, City’s only chance came when Erling Haaland was released towards goal, but Emiliano Martinez saved his shot and then sent his header away.

Aston Villa who were the better team finally got its goal in the 74th minute after Leon Bailey’s effort from the edge of the box took a huge deflection and went in. Douglas Luiz could score the second goal for Villa, but his powerful strike hit the post late on.

In one of the worst matches under Guardiola, Manchester City attempted just two shots in this match. This is the fewest by a Guardiola team in a game within Europe’s big-five leagues. Emery’s side attempted 22 shots in this match.
