Brazil legend Marta who just came back from an 11-month absence, sustained another injury and will not participate in a Finalissima match against England at Wembley.
The 37-year-old forward, who is an icon and plays for the Orlando Pride in the NWSL, was on the sidelines for almost a year due to anterior cruciate ligament damage.
Marta made a comeback in February during the SheBelieves Cup but now has to return to the treatment table.
The Brazil legend has scored 115 goals in 174 match for Brazil
Marta is presently out of action due to a thigh muscle issue, which resulted in her exclusion from the latest Brazil squad. Duda Santos from Palmeiras has been selected to replace her.
With 174 caps and 115 international goals under her belt, Marta will not participate in the Finalissima match against current European champions England on April 6, and will also miss a friendly match against Germany five days later.
Brazil hopes to recover Marta to complete fitness before the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which starts on July 23.
They are set to play against Panama in their opening Group F match, followed by matches against France and Jamaica. Their aim is to win the championship.
