Germany coach Nagelsmann opens door for Toni Kroos return

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has opened the door for Toni Kroos to come from retirement and play in the Euro 2024.

The 33-year-old Toni Kroos who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany decided to retire from international football after Euro 2020.

In an interview with ZDF, Nagelsmann was asked about the possibility of Kroos returning to the national team for the Euro.

“Interesting thought,” Nagelsmann told ZDF’s SportStudio. “My job is to think about all German players. Toni is a great person who says his opinion clearly – and a very successful footballer. You can talk to him about everything.”

Former Bayern Munich manager, who replaced Hansi Flick in September, also revealed that he has been in talks with Kroos.

Nagelsmann added: “No, not concretely. We spoke about general topics. I think playing Euros at home is an attractive prospect for all German players. It depends on him, his performances and on other players.”

Real Madrid legend Kroos will be a free agent at the end of the season, and there have been rumours that he may retire from football in the summer.

Tournament hosts Germany will face Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland in UEFA EURO 2024 Group A.
