Manchester City star Rodri gives injury update after Club World Cup final win

Manchester City star Rodri has provided an injury update after leaving the pitch in the FIFA Club World Cup final.

Manchester City thrashed Brazilian side Fluminense with four goals in Jeddah on Friday to win the Club World Cup.

Rodri was forced off in the second half of the Club World Cup final after an ugly tackle from Aleksander. Rodri’s serious injury could ruin Manchester City’s night, but the Spanish midfielder said his problem is not serious.

Rodri told Sky Sports: “I almost cried after the tackle but I’m fine, I will be fine to play vs Everton, no issues. I was so scared because I felt my knee but fortunately it was nothing. I said to the player: ‘You cannot do these kind of actions.

Today, I won more than a trophy. I go home safe but I was very close to crying. I felt very worried but it is nothing.”

After the final, Rodri was named the best player in the 2023 Club World Cup tournament.

Man City has lost all of its four matches without Rodri this season. City will face Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Man City became the first English club to win the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup titles in the same year.

Guardiola also became the first manager who has won four FIFA Club World Cup finals. This is Pep Guardiola’s 14th trophy as Manchester City manager.
