Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal: Points shared in top-of-the-table clash

Arsenal remain one point clear of Liverpool at the top after an entertaining draw at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool was held by Premier League leaders Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday night. Arsenal will remain at the top of the Premier League at Christmas with 40 points after 18 matches, Liverpool has 39 points.

Arsenal got an early goal at Anfield through defender Gabriel. The Brazilian scored with his head from Martin Odegaard’s free-kick into the Liverpool box in the 4th minute.

Liverpool players wanted a penalty in the 22nd minute after Odegaard caught the ball with his left hand in the box, but VAR said no penalty in another controversial decision.

Liverpool equalised with their first shot on target in the 28th minute. Alexander-Arnold found Salah with a superb ball over the top. Salah went past Zinchenko and cut back onto his left foot, before sending a powerful finish past Raya.

Salah becomes the first player in Premier League history who has managed to score more than 10 goals against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Klopp was forced to take Kostas Tsimikas off the pitch after he injured his shoulder in the 34th minute.

Arsenal missed a great chance to score another goal just before half-time. The ball reached Martinelli after Alisson clawed away the ball at Saka’s feet, but he sent the ball a few yards wide.

Harvey Elliot could score just two minutes after coming onto the pitch, but his deflected shot hit the outside of the post in the 72nd minute.

Liverpool had a great chance to score on the counter-attack after Salah played Alexander-Arnold to his right, but his strike came back off the bar in the 74th minute.
