Arsenal star William Saliba admits Liverpool should have had a penalty

Arsenal defender William Saliba admits that Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty in their 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Arsenal hold the top spot in the Premier League at Christmas with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool were controversially denied a penalty by VAR when Odegaard handled in the area after slipping under pressure from Salah. VAR ruled referee Chris Kavanagh had not made a clear and obvious error in not awarding Liverpool a penalty spot.

After the match, William Saliba was asked about the handball incident, and he replied: “Yes, of course. Of course, it was a penalty. But, I’m not the referee and we have to accept [the decision].”

Asked about the incident, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “There were two big decisions, I have not looked at them again yet. I was asked before but I have not seen them again.”

Arsenal is at the top with 40 points after 17 matches, one point ahead of Liverpool. The Gunners will host West Ham on Thursday. Liverpool will face Burnley at Turf Moor on Boxing Day.
