‘One step forward and two steps back’ Eriksen disappointed after another Man Utd defeat

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen says lack of ruthlessness once again cost them this season after suffering another defeat.

Manchester United ended 2023 by losing 2-1 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday night. This is Nottingham Forest’s first win over United in 29 years. Ten Hag’s side now has lost nine times in the Premier League this season.

After the match, Eriksen admitted he is disappointed with Man United’s inconsistency and wastefulness in front of goal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Eriksen said: “This season in general has been one step forward and two steps back and it felt like that today. Our aim was to get three points so it’s definitely disappointing to come away with zero. We had our chances. They had a lot less but scored them. At the moment we don’t. We need a few chances to score goals and it makes things more difficult.”

United could drop to ninth place in the table if Newcastle and Brighton win their games in hand. Ten Hag’s team is nine points behind fourth-placed team Arsenal with one more game played.

Manchester United will face Wigan in the FA Cup next weekend.
