Real Madrid won’t sign defender in January, confirms Ancelotti

Real Madrid won’t sign a defender in the January transfer window despite Éder Militão and David Alaba long term injury.

Real Madrid has been without Edder Militão since August after he suffered an ACL injury. David Alaba also suffered the same injury in December.

Ahead of Real Madrid’s first game of 2024, against Real Mallorca in La Liga, Ancelotti confirmed that they won’t sign a defender in January.

At this moment, we aren’t considering signing another centre back,” Ancelotti said in a news conference.

We’re lacking important players, but we have another two who we believe in, Nacho [Fernández] and [Antonio] Rüdiger, and two others who can play there, [Aurélien] Tchouaméni and [Dani] Carvajal. So right now we aren’t considering a signing.”

Ancelotti, who recently extended his contract until 2026, insisted Real Madrid have no plan to sign any defender in January.

I’ll repeat myself: yes, we won’t sign,” he added.

Real Madrid is at the top of the La Liga table with 45 points after 18 matches, level on points with Girona. Ancelotti confirmed that Vinícius Júnior, Dani Carvajal, and Arda Güler all are available for the game against Real Mallorca.

“Vinícius, Carvajal and Arda [are back],” Ancelotti said. “[Eduardo] Camavinga and [Ferland] Mendy will be back next week. So the news is good… [Güler] is getting back to his level. If I can give him minutes tomorrow, I will.”
