Tottenham set to sign Leipzig forward Timo Werner on loan

Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is close to joining Tottenham from Leipzig on a loan deal.

According to Sky Sports in England and Germany, Tottenham is close to signing forward Timo Werner from Leipzig on loan until the end of the season. Werner reportedly was offered to Manchester United, but it seems that he will join the North London club.

Tottenham will be without club captain Heung-Min Son for at least a month due to the Asia Cup. Ange Postecoglou’s side also is looking to sign a defender in January, and they have been linked with Genoa’s Radu Dragusin. Reports in Germany suggest that Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier also is set to join Bayern Munich in January.

Werner scored 93 goals in 157 matches for Leipzig before joining Chelsea for £45m in 2020. The 27-year-old Werner scored only 23 goals for Chelsea and returned to Leipzig for a reported fee of £25.3 million in 2022.

The German international scored 16 goals in his first season but has played just eight times for Leipzig in the Bundesliga this season.
