‘He has fallen from the sky for us’, Xavi hails impact of Gundogan at Barcelona

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has praised German star Ilkay Gundogan after his goal against Las Palmas.

After winning a treble last season, Ilkay Gundogan decided to not extend his contract with Manchester City and joined Barcelona as a free agent last summer.

Barcelona has struggled in La Liga this season, but the 33-year-old Gundogan has been one of their consistent performers. He has scored three goals, including his last-minute penalty in a 2-1 win over Las Palmas on Thursday.

Ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey match against Barbastro on Sunday, Xavi hailed the impact of Gundogan since joining his team.

“Ilkay is contributing a lot to us. The other day he made the difference in a difficult moment. He is a player who marks the personality of the team. He is always positive. He has fallen from the sky for us.”

Xavi’s side will face Osasuna in the semi-final of Spain Super Cup on Thursday.
