Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has thanked his former coach Pep Guardiola for publicly supporting him.
Xavi’s position as Barcelona’s manager has come under threat over the last few days, following Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final. There have been reports that some Barcelona players are losing faith in him, and he only has two or three games to save his job.
Before the FIFA Best Awards in London on Monday, Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola defended Xavi and urged players to step up. Manchester City manager, who won the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award, advised Barcelona directors to keep their faith in Xavi.
In his press conference on Wednesday, Xavi who played under Guardiola, thanked him for his support.
“I thank Pep for his kind words, I have sent him a message. He knows how difficult it is to coach this club. We have to be united. Together we are strong, that’s the motto.”
Barcelona will face Unionistas in the Copa Del Ray on Thursday. They then face Real Betis in the La Liga on Sunday.
